(edited) gchat with R, yesterday, 2:49 PM:
me: is that a tornado siren?
R: yes, it is
me: do i run into the basement?
R: fuck yeah
me: shit
R: relax and go...take phone and ill call you
me: i'm freaking out
Had to run down to the basement twice yesterday. Grabbed a book, a flashlight, my phone and my camera:
The tornado passed us from the north. These things are, apparently, plenty dangerous, move extremely fast, and have wiped out a few houses in my neighborhood last year. (Don't worry mom - I have a basement.) I find it all very exciting.

I am very happy to see that you've survived...
PS- it is also a test-posting, to see whether (at last) I can post responses (after the last few times did not work).
I'm hearing so much Japanese in the last few days... too bad I can't understand most of it...
That means you're spending too much time at home with your roommate :)
Been there, done that. The other tornado advice is to open windows before you hit the basement. Something to do with pressure.
I always recommend bringing some beer down to the basement with you -- or at least that is what I always did in college! Oh, and a radio for news reports.
Glad to hear you survived your first tornado warning. Man those sirens are loud as hell!
It just means that my roommate hosts her sister these days... and Japanese people are much more talkative than they seem- it just that they speak only in Japanese...
